NCC in J&K was raised in the year 1954 with one Senior Division Unit and four Junior Division troops and was controlled by 07 Circle, New Delhi. J&K Dte came into existence in 1960 at Srinagar and was headed by Director (Colonel).A Girls wing unit was raised in the year 1964.In 1982 the post of director was upgraded to Brigadier and in 1985 it was redesignated as Dy Director General (DDG) NCC. Subsequently, it was upgraded to Additional Director General (ADG) NCC in Jun 2012.Now J&K Dte is redesignated as NCC Dte JK&L after bifurcation of State of Jammu Kashmir in two union territories namely Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.The Dte has (2) two Group HQs, with a total of 10 (ten) NCC Units covering the three geographical regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.The units are covering 22 districts, 457 institutions in 84000 sq km of territory of both the Union Territories.
Major General RK Sachdeva has taken over as Additional Director General of NCC Directorate Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh on 25 Feb 2023.
Major General RK Sachdeva was commissioned into the Madras Sappers on 13 Jun 1987. The General Officer has served in varied terrain and holds multiple military qualifications and also attended many prestigious courses in Army. In his 36 years of distinguished service, the General officer has tenanted prestigious command and Staff assignments, including tenures in active operational areas. He has tenanted the appointment of Colonel General Staff at Army Training Command and head of training team at College of Military Engineering, Pune, Chief Engineer of Strike Corps, Chief Engineer of Bathinda Zone, Commander of Faculty of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering CME and Comdt Madras Engineer Group, Bangaluru.
Maj Gen R K Sachdeva has been bestowed upon with Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card twice while serving with Army Training Command and Strike Corps respectively for his excellent work on Unit’s Commander Manual, operational planning and Command level Operational Exercise. General Officer is a keen sportsman and an outstanding golfer. He is an excellent player of Badminton, Squash and Table Tennis.
The Officer assumes the appointment at a time when the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh are undergoing phenomenal changes and the NCC itself has shifted focus to enrolment of youth from the Border Areas of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The challenge lies in integrating youth from the Border and disturbed areas of Jammu and Kashmir and integrating them into mainstream of the Nation.
