About Us

The NCC Bns were raised for the State of Assam less Manipur & Tripura in the year 1948. These bns were loc at Guwahati and Jorhat and were affiliated to HQ 4 Circle Cadet Corps, Calcutta for comd and cont.  With the expansion of Jr Div Tps in Assam, Manipur and Tripura, a liaison offr was posted under the comd of HQ 4 Circle Cadet Corps, Calcutta. Subsequently, due to the expansion of NCC activities in the States of Assam, Manipur and Tripura, the necessity of separate Circle HQ was felt, resulting in the raising of HQ 9 Circle Cadet Corps at Shillong in the year 1951.  Maj Harnath Singh was posted as the first Circle Cdr. This appt was subsequently upgraded to the rk of Lt Col. Post Sino-India war of 1962, the NCC trg was made compulsory for the youth. This brought in an unprecedented expansion and necessitated the upgrading of the Circle HQ to a Dte under a Brig. Compulsory NCC trg involved huge expdr and all the States in the NER could not afford it. The trg was, therefore, once again made voluntary wef 1966. The Dte was re-designated as “NCC Dte Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, NEFA and Meghalaya” in Sep 1970.  Consequent to the re-designation of NEFA as “ARUNACHAL PRADESH” and creation of a new Union Territory of “MIZORAM”, this Dte was re-designated as “NCC Dte Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram in Mar 1972. On 01Sep 1977, the Dte was once again re-designated as “NCC Dte North Eastern Region, Shillong”.
