One sub-committee was sent on tour to Great Britain and France from 15 Feb to 31 Mar 1947 to study the Youth and Cadet Organisations in those countries. National Cadet Corps came into being by an Act of the Parliament. Act No. XXXI of 1948 designated 'The National Cadet Corps Act 1948'.This Act with 13 clauses, prescribed the formation of the National Cadet Corps in India. In 1948, NCC raised in the then Madhya Bharat, then known as No 3 Cadet Corps Circle loc at Nagpur with its units at Nagpur, Jabalpur and Raipur. The HQ was shifted to Kamptee after few months after its raising at Nagpur. In 1957, the HQ was shifted to Indore. In 1963 designated as NCC Directorate(Madhya Pradesh). In Sep 1976, the NCC Directorate moved to Bhopal in the present bldg. In Aug 1985, appt of Dir re-designated as Dy Dir Gen NCC. In 2000, Dte re-designated as Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh Dte with bifurcation of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh State on formation of Chhattisgarh State on 01 Nov 2000. In Jul 2012, the appt was upgraded to Addl Dir Gen (ADG) and was held by an offr of the rank of Major General.
Major General AK Mahajan took over the duties of Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh at Bhopal on 13 May 2022.The General Officer was commissioned in to Brigade of Guards Regiment. In his illustrious Career spanning over three decades, the General Officer has held various staff appointments to include GSO -1 (Ops) in Kashmir Valley, Colonel Q (Ops) in HQ 11 Corps and Colonel GS (HRD) in HQ ARTRAC. He has been awarded GOC-in-C Commendation Cards (Western Command and ARTRAC) in 2011 and 2016 and also COAS Commendation Cards in 2017 and 2020.Before taking over the duties of Additional Director General, NCC Directorate, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, the General Officer was performing the duties of Principal Staff Officer (PSO) in HQ DG NCC, New Delhi
