NCC was introduced in Bihar in the year 1948 with 1,950 Senior Division cdts and 4,050 Junior Division cdts. It was then organised as Circle HQ and Units. The strength of the cdts rose considerably due to NCC being made compulsory in 1963. Subsequently, NCC training was made voluntary. On 15 Jan 1963, the Circle HQ NCC was re-designated as NCC Directorate. Brig AS Sodhi was the first Director. With effect from 01 Aug 1985, the post of Director was re-designated as Dy Dir Gen (DDG). The same was further re-designated as Addl Dir Gen (ADG) wef 01 Oct 2011.
(ii) The Dte is housed in a building constructed as a project for NCC in 1986. Consequent to the formation of state of Jharkhand, the Dte has been renamed as NCC Directorate Bihar & Jharkhand wef 15 Nov 2000.
(iii) The Dte comprises of Six Gps, which have a total of 50 NCC Units under them spread across 38 districts of Bihar and 24 districts of Jharkhand.
(iv) The Directorate has an enrolled strength of 91, 127 cadets including 21,507 girl cadets from 257 colleges and 563 schools spread across the states of Bihar and Jharkhand.
